Tonight, the AWANA Pinewood Derby

Our first ever AWANA Pinewood Derby car race is tonight! The kids have worked the past several weeks on getting their cars finished up, thanks to the help of Jared Korman! Tonight, the race will get started at 6:00.

We're having taco salad (ice cream for desert) for our fellowship meal at 5:00. We will not be having adult Bible study. Adults and parents are encouraged to cheer on our kids in the derby car race. Pastor Gabe will be sharing a devotional to start things off.

How God Made a Chicken Sandwich

Here's a question for you: Have you ever thought about how many people and the work that they do contribute to the every-day things you enjoy? One fellow spent six months and $1500 just to make a chicken sandwich. Read Joe Carter's article here, and watch the video below. A great lesson to teach your kids!

Q&A Over Romans 4-7

Next week, October 4, we'll be reviewing Romans chapter 4-7, taking questions from the congregation and answering them in a sermon. If you have any question about the material we've studied thus far (or any theological question you'd like to ask), you have until Wednesday to get your questions in. All submissions will be kept anonymous. E-mail If you have a question you'd like answered privately, please let us know that in your e-mail.

(Due to some recent technical complications, the sermon for September 27 on Romans 7:13-25 didn't get recorded. We'll try to have the problem corrected for next week.)

What the Bible Says About the Pope

Surely you've noticed the Pope making major headlines this week as it is Francis's first visit to the USA. Many, including Southern Baptist minister Rick Warren, are referring to him as "holy father." Is that really how he should be regarded? What does the Bible say about the Pope anyway? From our ministry When We Understand the Text, here's a :90 video...

Missions Update and Potluck Tonight

One of our members, Sonya Walker, recently returned from a missions trip and we would like to hear how it went! This evening, we will gather for a potluck at the church beginning at 5:30. Contribute a dish if you are able (drinks and flatware will be provided by the church). Stick around for some great fellowship, and also a report from Sonya. This will be held in the fellowship hall. Park around back!

Life Is Best: Episode 1

The thirteen episode TV and DVD series Life Is Best has just released the first episode. Pastor Gabe, who voices the video ministry When We Understand the Text, can be heard in a couple of the episodes. You can watch the first episode below, offering a defense for the lives of the unborn.

Where Are All the Godly Men?

In 1 Timothy 6:11, the Apostle Paul addresses Timothy his protege as a "Man of God," equating him with the saints of old. God's prophets were often referred to as men of God (Deuteronomy 33:1, 1 Samuel 2:27, etc.). Today, the term "Man of God" seems to have lost that sense of reverence.

In a very straight-forward article, Dr. Jason K. Allen, president of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, asks, "Where Are All the Godly Men?" An important question for the whole church to consider. Click here to read.

This Is the Day the Lord Has Made

Psalm 118:24 is where we read that famous verse, "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!" The day in particular that's being celebrated in that verse is the day of salvation. For the Christian, that's every day! Let us gather together as the saints in Christ Jesus and celebrate our common salvation. Sunday school is at 9:30 and our worship service starts at 10:30.

Shutting Down Planned Parenthood

Right now, an investigation continues into the sordid practices within Planned Parenthood, a murderous organization killing nearly a thousand children a day and, as a recent sting operation uncovered, selling their parts for profit. The following is a testimony shared by Melissa Ohden before congress. She was meant to be killed by an abortion, but survived.

AWANA, Fellowship Meal, Bible Study

Get pumped for another Wednesday night! We've got AWANA this evening, adult Bible study at 6:30, and don't forget our fellowship meal starting at 5:00. Supreme nachos is on the menu for tonight (or taco salad if that's what you want to call it). The cost is $2 per child, $4 per adult, or $8 will feed the whole family. Our adult class is going through Deuteronomy, meeting in the garage classroom (north side of the building.)

Why Kim Davis Was Right Not to Resign

If you don't know the story of Kim Davis -- the county clerk in Kentucky was put in jail because she wouldn't issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples -- you should. This is a major issue that puts the subject of religious freedom front-and-center, especially in a culture where not baking a cake, doing floral arrangements, or taking pictures for a gay wedding can get you fined or put in jail.

Some have argued that Davis should have just resigned instead of digging in her heels and being thrown in jail. Joe Carter from the Gospel Coalition writes about why it was right for Davis to not resign. Read the article here.

Offices Closed for Labor Day

Happy Labor Day! Sorry, but our offices will not be open today for the holiday. We will, however, be open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week from 9am to 5pm. Pastor Gabe is still available to reach if you need him (members will have his number.)

If you missed the members meeting this past Sunday, an update will be coming to your inbox on Tuesday.

Lord's Supper, Potluck, and Members Meeting

On the first Sunday of the month, we gather together at the Lord's table for communion. Prepare your hearts this morning as we remember Christ's sacrifice, reconciling to God and to His people.

After church, we'll meet downstairs in the fellowship hall for a potluck. Bring something to contribute! And then after the meal, we meet back upstairs in the sanctuary for our members meeting. All members are encouraged to attend.

No Men's Breakfast This Week

There will be no men's breakfast Saturday. Typically held on the first Saturday of the month, the breakfast is being postponed due to many being gone for the Labor Day weekend. We have moved it to next week, September 12, at 9:00. Don't forget that this Sunday is our potluck and members meeting. Bring something to share! We'll gather in the fellowship hall at noon after church for some good food, then head upstairs for the members meeting.

A Couple of Spurgeons

Pastor Gabe and Chris Solano have finished up their time at the For the Church Conference, held at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City. Speakers included Dr. Russell Moore, David Platt, H.B. Charles, and Jared C. Wilson.

In addition to some great teaching, they got to tour the Charles Spurgeon Memorial Library (pictured left with a painting of Spurgeon). Featuring the largest collection of Spurgeon's books and other memorabilia. The library isn't set to officially open until next month. Here's a couple of Spurgeon quotes:

"I believe one reason why the church of God at this present moment has so little influence over the world is because the world has so much influence over the church."

"The Christian should work as if all depended upon him, and pray as if it all depended upon God."
